Prosecutor Unveils Startling Details in Charlie Kirk Shooting
Called “a US disaster,” legal authorities presented a disturbing account of the accused murder of rightwing figure Charlie Kirk.
An Orchestrated Assault
According to the district attorney’s office, Tyler Robinson had become overwhelmed with animosity for Kirk and his ideology. Authorities allege Robinson planned the murder in just over a week after learning Kirk would be appearing at Utah Valley University.
Messages Reveal Confession
Prosecutors assert Robinson dispatched his housemate messages admitting to the murder. In a particular exchange, Robinson reportedly stated, “I seized the chance to take out Charlie Kirk and I’m going to take it.”
“Delete this exchange,” Robinson reportedly wrote in a later message.
Firearm Information
Authorities believe a bolt-action rifle owned by Robinson’s grandfather was used in the shooting. The weapon was later found in a adjacent area wrapped in a towel.
Multiple unspent rounds were recovered with the rifle, every one engraved with provocative phrases.
Ideological Motives
According to accounts from Robinson’s mother, the suspect had recently grown increasingly ideological and started leaning more to the left, supporting LGBTQ+ rights.
The accused had also begun dating his housemate, a man who was transitioning, which allegedly led to conflict within his household.
Apprehension and Charges
The suspect was arrested on September 12 and accused with first-degree murder. The district attorney stated they will pursue the capital punishment.
Law enforcement indicate Robinson’s own parent identified him from media images of the shooter and notified authorities.
Legal Hearings
The suspect made an initial court appearance on Tuesday, with a waiver hearing set for September 29.
The state emphasized that the information shared are merely accusations at this stage and recognized the pain of Kirk’s family.
“Like all murders, the senseless ending of Charlie Kirk’s life has devastated the lives of those he cherished,” said the prosecutor.
