Labuschagne Left Out from Australian ODI Squad Versus India

Marnus Labuschagne has been dropped from the three-match ODI series facing India, with in-form Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw receiving a unexpected selection.

Performance Issues Lead to Exclusion

The right-hander was left out from the ODI squad after managing only a single run in his two batting efforts during the recent series against South Africa in August. Labuschagne has a top score of 47 in his last 10 ODI innings.

The 31-year-old has featured in 68 one-day internationals and amassed 1,871 ODI runs at an batting average of 34.64, but will now work towards a Test recall in time for the Ashes beginning in Perth on November 21.

Surprise Inclusion and Team Updates

Labuschagne has shown signs of a return to form with 160 for Queensland in the domestic first-class competition this week, while Renshaw also hit a hundred for the Bulls in the identical match against Tasmania.

Renshaw could to make his first white-ball appearance in the forthcoming series against India after his last inclusion in an ODI squad in 2022.

He has played 14 Tests with the last coming in India in 2023 but is also hoping for a red-ball recall as Australia search for a fix to their batting top-order problems.

Pace Additions and Fitness News

Left-arm quick Mitchell Starc makes a comeback for the ODI series against India after being rested since performing well for Australia in the whitewash of West Indies in July.

BBL performer Mitch Owen might get his ODI debut after being concussed in the lead up to Australia’s previous 50-over series against South Africa.

Skipper Pat Cummins continues to be absent as he works to regain fitness from a back injury in time to lead Australia in the first Ashes Test in November.

Team Announcement Approach and Schedule

Australia have selected a squad for only the initial two T20 matches against India with the Ashes on the horizon, although Glenn Maxwell will be absent for the five-match series due to a wrist injury suffered in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will skipper both the ODI and T20 sides after scoring a hundred in the final game against New Zealand to secure a 2-0 series win last week.

“We have named a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be player management through the later stages of the series as individuals prepare for the summer through domestic first-class matches,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The majority of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an important period in the preparation for the T20 World Cup next year, however we are trying to strike a balance to ensure we simultaneously prepare specific players for the Test series ahead.”

Australia’s three-match ODI series against India commences on October 19 in Perth, before the opponents play five T20s from 29 October.
