Australia's police have suspended the search for a four-year-old child who has been lost in the outback for nearly twenty-one days, after fresh efforts proved unsuccessful to discover any evidence of the youngster.

Sequence of Occurrences

Gus Lamont was observed enjoying himself near his residence on a isolated rural property near Yunta, about 186 miles from Adelaide, on late September.

His grandmother left him alone for about thirty minutes before checking on him, only to find the child nowhere to be found, triggering one of the most extensive ground and aerial missions in local records.

Current Status

Police - who do not think there was wrongdoing - say they will continue looking into, but that the matter has become a "recovery mission".

Recently, authorities temporarily reduced the hunt, only to resume it on Tuesday alongside numerous military staff.

"Spokesperson Grant Stevens said authorities were scanning a more extensive region based on updated assessments from survival and rescue specialists, rather than any new information."

Search Obstacles

On the end of last week, police confirmed that the recent hunt had not found any traces of the boy.

"The fact that the child is a young child, the landscape is very rough, unforgiving and affected by variable elements has made the searching challenging and more difficult for those involved," authorities said in a statement.
