Exploring a Bizarre Steam Game Trial: Controlling a Poop with the Goal to Arrive at the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and players have encountered numerous entertaining creations from small studios. However, one catches the eye for its quirky concept. Named Unko Technica, this old-school styled side-scrolling game features a protagonist that is truly a turd attempting to travel to a restroom. In case you're wondering, "Unko" means "poop."

The gameplay is simple: you only need a jump control. In 150 levels, you'll face mini-bosses and unlock a market to acquire skins for your poop character.

Time your actions with caution, since one wrong move means starting over. Jump off bubbles to launch your character higher, navigate disappearing surfaces, and touch buttons to reveal new areas. Collect coins and use them on challenging levels in which things ramps up.

Visually, the game boasts vibrant stages and a killer music score. The retro visual style featuring morphing basic polygons could recall players of classic titles like Earthbound.

While it's tough to name similar titles where you play as a piece of feces, interactive entertainment often included scatological themes. For example, in Death Stranding, you can craft throwables from character excrement. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ feces as soil enrichment. And of course, fecal references appears extensively in Obsidian's South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.

Despite its silly premise, Unko Technica has already received impressive awards, like being named best at a major publisher's game competition in 2023. The demo is accessible at present on Steam, with the complete version scheduled to arrive on PC on November 19.
