Djokovic Delivers Warning to Jannik Sinner: Doping Ban Will Follow Him Like a "Cloud"
Novak Djokovic has cautioned Jannik Sinner that his three-month doping suspension will persist over his career as a constant shadow – and raised doubts about the timing of the penalty in the previous season.
The Ban Explained
Sinner completed a three-month suspension in early 2025 after the World Anti-Doping Agency accepted his explanation that a banned anabolic steroid, clostebol, had entered his system accidentally.
"That cloud will follow him just as the Covid controversy will follow me, for the remainder of our respective careers," Djokovic stated in an interview on Piers Morgan: Uncensored.
"It is a situation where, it was so significant, and when that happens, over time it will fade, but I don't think it will disappear. There will inevitably exist a specific segment of individuals that will continually reference the incident."
The Champion's Viewpoint
Djokovic expressed belief that Sinner, his frequent training companion, "had no intentional involvement", but he then scrutinized how the Italian managed to complete his ban without missing a grand slam.
"There is the lack of transparency, the irregularity, the convenient timing of the suspension occurring between major events, so he avoids skipping important competitions – it simply appeared highly unusual," he further commented.

"I am dissatisfied with how the situation was managed and you could hear so many other players, across both tours, who had some similar situations voicing their concerns publicly and asserting it represented favorable handling."
