Lando Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at all of the last five race weekends.
The McLaren driver edged out team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the top spot in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the championship lead from Piastri by a single point after winning in Mexico City recently, beat the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Before then, Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before the sprint shootout scheduled for 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the championship fight, sitting 36 points Norris, was classified in 17th position as his team ran a unique setup.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, though minor, when he rotated at Turn Four early in the session.
The Japanese lost control over the track edges before sliding over the run-off area, and was blessed to escape with just a slight brush of the barrier.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also lost it, at the conclusion of the practice, rotating twice through the high-speed corner before the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in 19th, one place behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's car in third, 0.619 seconds behind Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
