Local Law Enforcement
Roughly fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Police report they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.
The substance had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then discovered multiple other smeared cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police say initial examinations suggest the liquid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no lead as to its source; investigators are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they commented.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to solve the case" and have requested to the public for details.
A high-ranking representative stated the attack left him without words and needed to be addressed rapidly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right attack five years ago," he posted on social media, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
